Housing Wanted for our College Interns

Some of our interns pictured here!

Poor People’s Economic Human Rights Campaign, aka Poor People’s Army, is looking for places for a few college summer interns to live. Ideally they would have their own room in a house or apartment in the greater Philadelphia area where they can have some privacy and ability to use the kitchen, bathroom, and internet. Our interns are in college, coming from other areas to work with us for a period of 4-6 weeks  (dates vary, may be flexible). While it’s great to have one place the entire time, it’s also OK if you only have space for 1-2 weeks. We like to introduce students to people potentially offering housing via zoom with someone from Poor People’s Army, to meet each other and confirm if the connection and situation are right.

Poor People’s Economic Human Rights Campaign (poorpeoplesarmy.org) is a nonprofit based in Philadelphia. We are committed to uniting the poor as the leadership base for a broad movement to abolish poverty everywhere and forever. We do not take corporate or government money, we rely on individual donations and grants to survive, and we do not have money to pay interns. Therefore we try to secure free housing for interns coming from out of town, and share food resources and transportation with them. You would not be expected to share food or transportation, that’s on us, but we do need help with housing! Past interns have gone on to lead nonprofits, government agencies, and legal aid organizations. Interns consistently say that their experiences with Poor People’s Army are profound experiences that alter the course of their lives.

Our leadership will stay in touch with people providing housing to make sure all parties are content with the living situation, and to help resolve any issues that may arise. We thank you for considering offering housing for our amazing summer interns!
